Around the Web this Week
- Gina Torres Joins the Cast of Star Wars Rebels (via The Mary Sue)
- I love Gina Torres (probably best known as Zoe from Firefly) and Star Wars Rebels is a really great show. So, I’m thrilled to hear she’ll be voicing a character. I love how diverse the cast of characters is and it has some fantastic writing. Check it out if you haven’t seen it yet.
- Horror films and feminism: women who don’t run from danger, but step-up to it (via Bust)
- I love looking at the horror genre through a feminist lens. This was an interesting article. If you’re interested in a deeper analysis, Men, Women and Chainsaws is a little old, but a good one.
- Q & A with Marjorie Liu, author of the new comic Monstress (via The Book Smugglers)
- I’m a huge fan of Marjoire M. Liu and her new comic Monstress looks absolutely gorgeous. I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
- Fight the power: how the female superhero is finally taking flight (via The Guardian)
- Great article on how women are finally gaining momentum in the superhero game in film.
- Kelly Sue DeConnick on Captain Marvel, political comics and angry feminism (via The Mary Sue)
- Another interview with a comic writer that I absolutely love. If you haven’t read anything by DeConnick, I highly recommend checking-out her run on Captain Marvel.
- Which of these 10 suffragette women should be on the $10 bill? (via Bust)
- A fun poll is up on Bust that asks which famous suffragette you would want to see on the $10 bill. There’s so many great people on this list it’s incredibly hard to choose. Who’d you pick?
- Channing Tatum will be Gambit in a new solo movie (via The Mary Sue)
- Barf. When I was in my teen years, Gambit was my favorite X-men (it’s Nightcrawler now). So, I was excited to hear that Gambit would be getting his own solo movie. However, that excitement took a nosedive when I discovered that Tatum would be playing him and this looks like it’s just a vanity project for the actor. Is anyone excited about this casting choice?
How’d everyone else’s week go?
I hope you have a great Thanksgiving!

That’s a really weird casting of Gambit, especially as they already have him played by someone else in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie!
