Top Ten Tuesday: 10 Characters Everyone Loves But I Just Don’t Get

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is 10 characters everyone loves but I just don’t get.

I’m sticking with romantic leads that people love who I hate. I’m not a fan of the “alpha hero”, so this list was fairly easy to compose.

41865

Edward Cullen from Twilight

Naked In Death

Roarke from J.D. Robb’s In Death series

6283272

Jericho Barrons from Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series

lothaire

Lothaire from Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series

night broken

Adam from Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series

827412

Marcus from Lisa Kleypas’ Wallflowers series

Sebastian Ballister from Loretta Chase’s Lord of Scoundrels

15931

Noah Calhoun from Nicholas Sparks’ The Notebook

420739

Gray Rouillard from Linda Howard’s After the Night

a court of thorns and roses

Tamlin from Sarah J. Mass’ A Court of Thorns and Roses

I wouldn’t say I hate Tamlin. I just found him extremely boring and I needed one more person for this list.

  1. Isn’t it funny that although we can like the same books and characters a majority of the time in general with other bloggers, then there are those other times were we just don’t get why they like the books and characters they do?,

  2. I’ve been thinking of trying the Mercy Thompson books but I’ve heard mixed things about the Adam character. Some people seem to live him and some don’t, I guess it’s that “alpha” thing. 🙂 And Edward… yeah I can see that.

  3. Hehe Edward and Tamlin are actually my preferred love interests in Twilight and ACOTAR. But I guess that’s the thing about love triangles (or potential love triangles), they’re pretty polarizing sometimes. Tamlin is a bit boring but at least he’s not a dick like Rhys is, IMO.

  4. Adam has started growing on me, since he’s become a lot sweeter ever since marrying Mercy. But I am with you, I dislike “Alpha heroes” too often because of the gender imbalance in the relationship, and it bothers me a little to see that glorified. Tamlin is a perfect example, there were some scenes in ACOTAR where I was just shook my head thinking, “Why is Feyre even putting up with his crap?”

    • Yeah, it’s the power imbalance in those relationships with “Alpha heroes” that really bother me.

Yeah, Tamlin bothered me, Rhys was the one that really bothered me the most though. He would’ve beat out Tamlin but I hadn’t heard too many people saying that they were fans of his so I didn’t feel like I could add him to the list. 😛

  5. I don’t like Barrons either, which is pretty shocking for some people since I love UF (and most male romantic interests in UF tend to be “alpha”). He’s just waaay too over the top! Adam from the Mercy Thompson books I do like, but then again he was kind of unbearable in the first 3 books. I guess he has an excuse because he’s *actually* an alpha, but it was still annoying.

    • Barrons is incredibly over the top! It wasn’t too surprising to me though, since I had read several of KMM’s highlander romances and all the heroes there were pretty over the top as well.

I’ve heard that Adam was pretty unbearable in the first few books. I’ve only read a few of the Mercy books from the middle and he just irked me. If he’s a bigger arse in the first few novels, I don’t think I’ll go back and read those. 😛

    • I haven’t seen the movie “The Notebook” yet. I wasn’t a huge fan of the book, so I didn’t get around to watching the movie. I have seen a lot of people swooning over the movie interpretation of him though.

  6. I don’t mind Adam particularly but I find the whole alpha male thing slightly irritating and he comes across badly in that respect at first. I like that Mercy stands up for herself though.
I also wasn’t feeling Tamlin or Feyre particularly, I liked Lucien and Rhysand.
    Lynn 😀
