Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.
The object of this meme is to share the books you’ve borrowed or bought throughout the week.
So, I made the resolution last week to cut down on my TBR pile in 2016 and what happens? Three books I’ve had on hold forever at the library finally appear and then I’m given two more books. I seem to be going in the wrong direction with that goal.
TBR pile count: 170 titles
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult
Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone.
Newt’s Emerald by Garth Nix
Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult
On her eighteenth birthday, Lady Truthful, nicknamed “Newt,” will inherit her family’s treasure: the Newington Emerald. A dazzling heart-shaped gem, the Emerald also bestows its wearer with magical powers.
When the Emerald disappears one stormy night, Newt sets off to recover it. Her plan entails dressing up as a man, mustache included, as no well-bred young lady should be seen out and about on her own. While in disguise, Newt encounters the handsome but shrewd Major Harnett, who volunteers to help find the missing Emerald under the assumption that she is a man. Once she and her unsuspecting ally are caught up in a dangerous adventure that includes an evil sorceress, Newt realizes that something else is afoot: the beating of her heart.
Storm Vol. 1: Make it Rain by Greg Pak
Genre: Comic
Thief. Goddess. Headmistress. Queen. The X-Man called Storm has always defied a single title. And her desire to better the world has never been limited to only her own kind. On an ongoing mission to foster goodwill and safeguard both mankind and mutants, Ororo Munroe will travel the globe, confronting villains, gods, monsters and everything in between. She will overthrow tyrants, quell tsunamis and strive to see her dream for the world realized. She is Storm, a hero like no other…and the skies will tremble at the sight of their namesake. But now, Storm must handle the fallout caused by familiar faces from her past. Why is Callisto kidnapping wayward youth from the streets of New York? Will Storm’s romance with Forge be reignited? And can Yukio help Storm deal with the recent death of Wolverine?
Suicide Squad Vol. 5: Walled In by Matt Kindt
Genre: Comic
Our world belongs to the Crime Syndicate!
With Forever Evil sweeping across the DC Universe, the Suicide Squad find themselves in a world full of villians now free from their shackles — Belle Reve! And now with the Reverse Suicide Squad taking over Belle Reve, Amanda Waller and James Gordon Jr. must free a mysterious prisoner from the early days of the New 52 if they are to have any hope of surviving!
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
Genre: Sci-Fi, Young Adult
This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.
This afternoon, her planet was invaded.
The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.
But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.
I have Six of Crows and Illuninae on my TBR, good luck!!

I read ILLUMINAE a couple of weeks ago – definitely a unique book.
I have both SIX OF CROWS and NEWT’S EMERALD on my TBR pile as well (the latter for longer than I like to remember!). I’ve got to pick up SIX OF CROWS next…

I’m with you on needing to pick-up “Six of Crows” next. I only have that one for 2 weeks from the library and there’s a line of people waiting for it, so I won’t be able to renew. I might need to start it tonight.

OMG YES! Six of Crows! I love that book so much and I hope you love it too! Please love it! I also really enjoyed Illuminae, but not as much as other readers seemed to. Still, I hope you really enjoy that one too! I’ve seen Newt’s Emerald floating around the internet but never really looked into the synopsis. It sounds amazing! I’ll definitely have to check it out next time I’m at the bookstore (wait, but what about that buying ban Jenna?) T_T

I’m hoping I love Six of Crows! I’ve heard such awesome things about it and my expectations are a little high now, so I’m kind of nervous that it won’t live up to the hype.
Ooo yes! I hope you do check out Newt’s Emerald. (Not that I’m trying to get you to break your buying ban. 😛 )

That always happens with library holds! You wait forever and then they all come in at once, haha. But I still love getting my books from the library! I actually just got Six of Crows as an ebook a couple days ago – fingers crossed we both like it. 🙂
