A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith
Genre: Classic
Series: N/A
A profoundly moving novel, and an honest and true one. It cuts right to the heart of life … If you miss A Tree Grows in Brooklyn you will deny yourself a rich experience … It is a poignant and deeply understanding story of childhood and family relationships. The Nolans lived in the Williamsburg slums of Brooklyn from 1902 until 1919 … Their daughter Francie and their son Neely knew more than their fair share of the privations and sufferings that are the lot of a great city’s poor. Primarily this is Francie’s book. She is a superb feat of characterization, an imaginative, alert, resourceful child. And Francie’s growing up and beginnings of wisdom are the substance of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.
You have a nice mix! Poison Study sounds awesome (I don’t think I’ve read a fantasy where someone is the royal taster) and I need to read Six of Crows (and the first one) too just because it seems to be getting raves.

Poison Study is fabulous! I hope you get around to giving it a shot. Unfortunately the 3rd book in the series isn’t the strongest, but the first one is absolutely wonderful.

Horrorstor was a book that was recommended to me too – I had seen it around, but the good reviews from bloggers I follow were what pushed me to try it out and I’m so glad I did. And wow, White Oleander – that’s one book I haven’t thought about in years. I read it, after I saw the movie.

Same here about Horrorstor! Even though that one was recommended to me first, I still read “My Best Friends Exorcism” by Hendrix first. Yeah, White Oleander was from quite a while ago. I think I read it back in high school

I still need to finish-up the Lunar Chronicles. I’ve just read Cinder so far. Six of Crows stands well on it’s own. I didn’t read Ruin and Rising either but was able to follow Six of Crows easily.
