I’m always excited to get my hands on these short story collections set in Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld series. This is set to be her last Otherworld collection.

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Series: Psy/Changeling #15.5

I know, I’ve already posted about this anthology not that long ago but I’m ridiculously excited for it. I love bite size stories and Singh’s are usually pretty fantastic.

Guardian’s Mate by Jennifer Ashley
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Series: Shifters Unbound #9
Release Date: Sept. 9

I’m always excited for a new release in this series by Ashley but then the books just sit on my shelves for a long time. I think I’m 3 or 4 books behind in this series. Don’t care though. I’m still looking forward to this one.

Goodreads Description:

Chosen as the Guardian of her Montana Shiftertown, wolf Shifter Rae Lyall is facing opposition—for no woman has ever been selected for this powerful position. Still adjusting to the new authority thrust upon her, Rae travels to train with Zander Moncrieff, a Shifter healer, tasked with teaching her about her new role and its responsibilities.

A polar bear Shifter, Zander wears no Collar and follows no rules but his own. Rae finds him arrogant and demanding, yet compelling and intriguing. Zander has no wish to mate but the sassy Guardian is drawing him out of his shell, stirring feelings long suppressed. And when a new threat looms over Rae’s home, she and Zander must race to the rescue, forced closer to danger…and to each other.

Magic Binds by Ilona Andrews

Series: Kate Daniels #9
Release Date: Sept. 20

It’s the new Kate Daniels book. Of course, I’m looking forward to it.

Goodreads Description:

Kate’s father, Roland, has kidnapped the demigod Saiman and is slowly bleeding him dry in his never-ending bid for power. A Witch Oracle has predicted that if Kate marries the man she loves, Atlanta will burn and she will lose him forever. And the only person Kate can ask for help is long dead.

The odds are impossible. The future is grim. But Kate Daniels has never been one to play by the rules…

Where the Wild Things Bite by Molly Harper
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Series: Half-Moon #5
Release Date: July 26

The last couple of books in the Half-Moon series didn’t really interest me, so I had skipped reading them. This one, however, sounds right up my alley. Can’t wait to grab it in July.

Goodreads Description:

Delivering a rare book to a valued customer is definitely part of mild-mannered archivist Anna Winthrop’s job description. You know what isn’t? Protecting her precious cargo from mid-flight theft by the very pilot who is flying her to Half-Moon Hollow…while trying to appear as unappetizing as possible to the only other passenger, a vampire. Undead bookstore owner Jane Jameson could be waiting a very long time for her book. Possibly forever.

Fortunately, Anna’s dashing fanged companion Finn Palmeroy helps her fend off the attack, but not before their plane crash lands in the forest hundreds of miles from civilization. Great, now she’s stranded with a priceless tome and a rakish vampire whose bedtime is fast approaching. Why does everyone want this book so badly, anyway? Anna just wants to get it to Jane before Finn decides to turn her into dinner-or sweep her off her feet. Okay, the second option is really tempting. But they’re not out of the woods yet..

Twist by Kylie Scott
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Series: Dive Bar #2
Release Date: Nov 22

I hate this cover with a passion. Not sure what it is exactly, but it was enough to make me contemplate if I even really wanted to read this.

Goodreads Description:

When his younger brother loses interest in online dating, hot, bearded, bartender extraordinaire, Joe Collins, only intends to log into his account and shut it down. Until he reads about her.

Alex Parks is funny, friendly, and pretty much everything he’s been looking for in a woman. And in no time at all they’re emailing up a storm, telling each other their deepest darkest secrets… apart from the one that really matters.

And when it comes to love, serving it straight up works better than with a twist.

A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess
Genre: Fantasy, YA
Series: Kingdom on Fire #1
Release Date: Sept. 20

Victorian London and a heroine who can burst into flames? Sold.

Goodreads Description:

She also meets her fellow sorcerer trainees, handsome young men eager to test her power and her heart. One will challenge her. One will fight for her. One will betray her.

But Henrietta Howel is not the chosen one.
As she plays a dangerous game of deception, she discovers that the sorcerers have their own secrets to protect. With battle looming, what does it mean to not be the one? And how much will she risk to save the city–and the one she loves?

Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter
Genre: Fantasy, YA
Series: N/A
Release Date: Sept. 20

The cover is what initially drew me to this. I just love it. The fact that it’s inspired by a Russian folktale is what sold me though.

Goodreads Description:

In the enchanted kingdom of Brooklyn, the fashionable people put on cute shoes, go to parties in warehouses, drink on rooftops at sunset, and tell themselves they’ve arrived. A whole lot of Brooklyn is like that now—but not Vassa’s working-class neighborhood.

In Vassa’s neighborhood, where she lives with her stepmother and bickering stepsisters, one might stumble onto magic, but stumbling out again could become an issue. Babs Yagg, the owner of the local convenience store, has a policy of beheading shoplifters—and sometimes innocent shoppers as well. So when Vassa’s stepsister sends her out for light bulbs in the middle of night, she knows it could easily become a suicide mission.

But Vassa has a bit of luck hidden in her pocket, a gift from her dead mother. Erg is a tough-talking wooden doll with sticky fingers, a bottomless stomach, and a ferocious cunning. With Erg’s help, Vassa just might be able to break the witch’s curse and free her Brooklyn neighborhood. But Babs won’t be playing fair. . . .

Stealing Snow by Danielle Paige
Genre: Fantasy, YA
Series: Stealing Snow #1
Release Date: Sept. 20

I’m not really a fan of Wizard of Oz, so I had skipped reading Danielle Paige’s books. However, this new series she’s starting sounds right up my alley.

Goodreads Description:

Seventeen-year-old Snow has spent the majority of her life within the walls of the Whittaker Institute, a high security mental hospital in upstate New York. Deep down, she knows she’s not crazy and doesn’t belong there. When she meets a mysterious, handsome new orderly and dreams about a strange twisted tree she realizes she must escape and figure out who she really is.

Using her trusting friend Bale as a distraction, Snow breaks free and races into the nearby woods. Suddenly, everything isn’t what it seems, the line between reality and fantasy begins to blur, and she finds herself in icy Algid–her true home–with witches, thieves, and a strangely alluring boy named Kai, none of whom she’s sure she can trust. As secret after secret is revealed, Snow discovers that she is on the run from a royal lineage she’s destined to inherit, a father more powerful and ruthless than she could have imagined, and choices of the heart that could change the fate of everything…including Snow’s return to the world she once knew.

  1. I like the sound of the Armstrong anthology as I just read my first book of hers recently (not one of her UF’s but I’m still curious about her other stuff), and I like short stories occasionally too. Especially if they give more info on a favorite world. And I’ve heard good things about the Ilona Andrews team too.

    • Ilona Andrews is fabulous. I hope you give them a shot. I’m thinking you’d probably enjoy the Kate Daniels series more than their Edge books though. The Edge series leaned a lot more toward PNR than Urban Fantasy.

I hope you give more of Armstrong’s stuff a shot. She’s one of my favorites.

    • Thanks! I really need to get caught up on the Kate Daniels books. I think I’m 2 or 3 behind in the series. I’m glad to hear you’re excited for Guardian’s Mate as well! I might skip over the previous book in the series to get to that one sooner. 🙂
