Upcoming Blog Posts
I’ve been dealing with some personal things this week, so I’m a little behind on reading blogs and replying to comments. I also used up all my posts that were written ahead of time. So, no review this week and I’m going to make Film Friday tentative. I’m hoping to be back on track next week.

Around the Web this Week
A round-up of things that interested me on the web this week.
- A study shows that Disney princesses don’t get to talk in their own movies (via The AV Club)
- A dinosaur shoveling snow….you’re welcome. (via YouTube)
- This rather intense Pokemon advertisement (via YouTube)
- A rockin 11 year old girl starts a book drive to collect children’s books featuring black female leads (Jezebel)
- The new Suicide Squad trailer is so much better than the Comic Con one (via YouTube)
I love that dinosaur video- I saw that earlier this week and it cracked me up. Awesome. And Suicide Squad looks fun!
Looking forward to Read It or Ditch It- that’s a fun feature.
Hope you have a great weekend and a good week ahead.

I love the Dinosaur shoveling snow. I guess if you have to do it, you might as well have fun with it.

I saw that article on Disney princesses earlier this week too and thought it was interesting, but I was skeptical of their choice to use spoken lines to illustrate their argument. Actions speak louder than words in my world, and for me that goes for the heroines in stories as well. I thought studies like that one willfully or conveniently ignored that. Food for thought though! And I hope the Suicide Squad movie will be good! Whatever you’re dealing with in real life, hang in there! 🙂

I agree completely! A film can give a woman a large speaking part but that can not matter. It depends on what she’s saying and whether or not her actions actually impact the outcome of the plot. There are a ton of movies out there where women have large speaking roles but if they were lifted out of the story, it would make very little impact to the outcome of the story.
And thanks for the well wishes! I’m hoping it all will clear up soon on the personal side.
