Uprooted by Naomi Novik
Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult

Agnieszka loves her valley home, her quiet village, the forests and the bright shining river. But the corrupted Wood stands on the border, full of malevolent power, and its shadow lies over her life.

Her people rely on the cold, driven wizard known only as the Dragon to keep its powers at bay. But he demands a terrible price for his help: one young woman handed over to serve him for ten years, a fate almost as terrible as falling to the Wood.

The next choosing is fast approaching, and Agnieszka is afraid. She knows—everyone knows—that the Dragon will take Kasia: beautiful, graceful, brave Kasia, all the things Agnieszka isn’t, and her dearest friend in the world. And there is no way to save her.

Cockpit Confidential by Patrick Smith
Genre: Non-Fiction

The world of air travel is fascinating but a little wacky. Patrick Smith underscores these features with wit and wisdom. In addition to his knowledge of all things aviation-related, he shares his personal and sometimes surprising insights into geography and culture from his travels to over 70 countries.

  1. Aieeee, UPROOTED! I hope you’ll like it. You know how we were talking about our issues with ACOTAR? To be honest, I think it was because Uprooted has forever ruined me on all Beauty-and-the-Beast type stories from now on, because Naomi Novik is just that good! 🙂

    • I’m about halfway through Uprooted right now and really loving it. I like that it’s a standalone but I want to stay in the world Novik is building. This is one I kind of wish would be a series.

ACOTAR I couldn’t wait to finish. I didn’t hate it, I just wanted it to be over so I could move on to something that caught my interest more.
