Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is 10 New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2015.
I didn’t read a whole lot of new-to-me authors this year, so this week’s list is more like a top eight.
Main Genre: Fantasy
Recommended Book(s): Radiance and Entreat Me
Grace Draven is by far my favorite “new to me author” I read this year. If you like high fantasy and romance, then I definitely suggest you check-out one of her novels.
Main Genre: Young Adult Fantasy
Recommended Book(s): Cruel Beauty and Gilded Ashes
Rosamund Hodge is another great fantasy author. Her world is a little darker than most of the YA books I’ve read, which I love.
Main Genre: Sci-Fi Mystery
Recommended Book(s): Innocent in Death and Glory in Death
I’m very late hopping on the J.D. Robb train. I’m really enjoying the world she’s built for her In Death series. This is a great mystery series that incorporates light touches of Sci-Fi.
Main Genre: Comic
Recommended Book(s): Chew series
A really fantastic comic series. Chew is quirky and, at times, wonderfully disgusting. John Layman is a writer whose work I’ll be keeping an eye on.
Main Genre: Contemporary Romance
Recommended Book(s): Lead and Play
I devoured Kylie Scott’s Stage Dive series in about a week. I’m not a huge fan of New Adult, but Scott’s books work well for me. Can’t wait for her new spin-off series that’s set to release next year.
Main Genre: Thriller
Recommended Book(s): Silence of the Lambs
I read Thomas Harris for the first time this year and was really surprised at how much I enjoyed his writing style. I can’t wait to read the rest of the Hannibal Lecter novels.
Main Genre: Fantasy YA
Recommended Book(s): Cinder
Another party I’m a little late to. So far, I’ve only read the one book by Meyer’s but I’m looking forward to finishing the Lunar Chronicles series now that it’s complete.
Main Genre: Comic
Recommended Book(s): Batman: The Long Halloween
Batman: The Long Halloween was the first graphic novel by Loeb that I read and I loved it. I can’t wait to read more by Loeb in the coming year.
So many great authors that you have listed here!!! I love Kylie Scott….I loved her Stage Dive series…they rocked. And yay for Grace Draven…I loved Radiance and I need to read her other books.

Thanks! I really enjoyed Kylie Scotts stuff. Can’t wait for her spin-off series. 🙂 I still need to read some of Draven’s backlog too.

I started Lick but never finished. Perhaps I should give it another go! I haven’t read any of Marissa Meyer’s books yet either! And I love Nora Roberts, but have yet to read a JD Robb book!! My TTT

I hope you like Lick if you give it another shot! That one wasn’t my favorite in the series, I liked Lead (the 3rd book) the best.
I have tried so many times to read Nora Roberts, but can’t get into them. But when she writes as J.D. Robb I really enjoy it. It’s kind of odd!

I love Rosamund Hodge, but somehow missed her second book. And I really want to finish The Lunar Chronicles, I’ve only read Cinder as well. Great list!

It seemed like Hodge’s second book didn’t get as much attention as Cruel Beauty. It makes me a little worried that it’s not as good.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who hasn’t read all the Lunar Chronicles yet! My goal for next year is to finish reading the series.

I haven’t read all of these but the ones that I did try I couldn’t agree with more. There is nothing like finding a great new author, especially when they have multiple books out you can buy afterward. 😉

I agree! I love finding a new author who has a large backlog. It’s fun to binge read their stuff. 😛

Thomas Harris was pretty good. I was surprised because the movie stuck extremely close to the book for Silence of the Lambs.
Great list! I really want to read a Mira Grant and Joe Hill book. I’m going to have to check them out soon. I’m glad you enjoyed Jennifer Ashley! I love her PNRs. 😀

I haven’t read as many graphic novels this year as I wanted to, but there are some good ones out there. Nice list- I recognize several of those authors, and even though I haven’t read any of her stuff I’ve heard Marissa Meyer is really good. She was in the area for a signing recently and was very popular.

Yeah, I need to catch-up on some graphic novels as well. I got through phases where I read nothing but graphic novels then go quite a while without picking one up.
Marissa Meyer is pretty good. I enjoyed Cinder quite a bit. She’s really big right now, especially with having completed her Lunar Chronicles series.

I really enjoyed Rosamund Hodge’s Cruel Beauty. And I’m glad you enjoyed Marissa Meyer and hope the rest of the series is enjoyable for you as well.

Other than J. D. Robb, I can’t say as I recall reading any of the other authors on your Top Ten Tuesday post this week, so I have some new to me authors to check out for sure.

I really want to read Grace Draven. I’ve heard fabulous things about her. I just finished the Lunar Chronicles series late last month and it was wonderful. I am still working my way through the JD Robb backlist so I understand how it feels to be behind. I have got to read Rosamund Hodge. I love fairy tale retellings.

I really love Draven. I hope you like her stuff if you decide to read something by her. If you like fairytale retellings, her book “Entreat Me” is a Beauty and the Beast retelling.
Yeah, JD Robb’s backlist is daunting! I can’t believe how many books she’s written in the Eve Dallas series. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the Lunar Chronicles series!

Nice list — quite a variety! People have recommended J. D. Robb to me many times over the years — maybe it’s time for me to finally give one of her books a try. I’m really enjoying the Lunar books as well.

I haven’t read anything by Grace Draven, but I will check out her books. Always fun to find a new author. I read Cinder last year and really liked it. Good list!

Thanks, Jan! I hope you like Draven’s books when you get around to trying one out. I’m really loving her stuff.

Cool list – I’ve Grace Draven books in my TBR, and love Kylie Scott’s writing.
I’ve pretty much stopped reading Nora Roberts/JD Robb though (the books were getting a bit same-y), maybe it’s time to check out her latest books again…

Thanks, Li! I really love Draven. She’s quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.
I can’t get into Nora Roberts, but I enjoy when she writes as J.D. Robb. I can see how some of the later books in her In Death series could start to get same-y. I haven’t gotten far enough to find that yet.
